Kornog Sauternes Bourbon Cask Reserve is a peated single malt from Brittany, matured twice in bourbon and Sauternes casks. It offers a complex nose with notes of gingerbread and chestnut honey, a round and fruity palate, and a long, saline finish.

Description

Brand History:

Founded in 1997, Celtic Whisky Distillerie is one of the first French distilleries dedicated to whisky production. Located in Pleubian, on the north coast of Brittany, just a few meters from the sea, the oceanic climate gives the whiskies a unique marine character. A pioneer of French whisky, the distillery combines specific features that guarantee whisky production in the purest artisanal tradition: open flame heating, slow distillation, the use of traditional equipment such as two small pot stills and wooden fermenters, and, of course, seaside maturation. Thanks to its high standards of quality, it has become one of the most successful in France.

Manufacturing method:

For this double maturation, the choice fell on very old Sauternes barrels in order to bring complexity and profusion of aromatic notes to a peat that is both round and powerful. The maturation in ex-bourbon barrels brings all the characteristic roundness of Kornog. It is bottled at 53.4%.

Here, the delicacy is present throughout the tasting.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Captivating with a complex bouquet that develops notes of gingerbread, chestnut honey, but also dried fruits and nuts, leather...
Palate: It is nothing but roundness. The peat is powerful and delicious, with lovely fruity notes awakening the taste buds.
Finish: very long, revealing the saline notes specific to seaside aging.

Features

Aging: bourbon barrel and Sauternes barrel

Directions for use

Best enjoyed neat at room temperature (18–20°C), with a splash of water, chilled with whisky stones or ice cubes to provide slight dilution.
