Description
Brand History:
The spirit of Grosperrin cognacs is based on the desire to bear witness to the Charente heritage without artifice. Guilhem Grosperrin, a true cognac artisan, travels the appellation's lands each year in search of confidential lots and family heirlooms. In their restored 19th-century cellar in Saintes, the cognacs are aged as unique works, faithfully reflecting a terroir, a plot, a vintage, and a history.
Where some blend batches from different origins to create quality products, Grosperrin Cognacs craft intrinsically unique and rare cognacs, recognizable among all.
Manufacturing Method:
A very rare cognac from the Île d'Oléron. These old cognacs are very rare, about 30 times rarer than an old Grande Champagne (if we refer to the stocks available across the entire appellation). This sandy terroir, exposed to the sea spray of the Atlantic Ocean, benefits from the influence of the Gulf Stream and enjoys almost Mediterranean sunshine. The plants rarely found on the coast, such as mimosa and tamarisk, give it the nickname "the herb island." This cognac comes from a very small property located in Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron, whose operator is now retired. It was during the first lockdown that we were able to purchase this extremely rare lot, identified several years ago thanks to one of our brokers.
Nose: Roasted pineapple, salted caramel, warm peach, toasted oak, hint of saffron.
Palate: Rich and round, nice tension, grapes macerated in rum, ripe fruit, delicate pastry.
Finish: Long and saline, reveals a remarkable balance, both delicious and vibrant.
