Description
Brand history:
The spirit of Grosperrin cognacs lies in the desire to authentically showcase the heritage of the Charente region. Guilhem Grosperrin, a true cognac craftsman, travels throughout the appellation each year in search of exclusive batches and family heirlooms. In their restored 19th-century cellar in Saintes, the cognacs are nurtured like unique works of art, faithfully reflecting a terroir, a specific plot of land, a vintage, and a story.
Where some blend batches from different origins to create quality products, Cognacs Grosperrin crafts intrinsically unique and rare cognacs, recognizable among all others.
Manufacturing method:
This vintage cognac was sold to us by a distillery in Châteauneuf-sur-Charente, which acted as the intermediary between the winemaker and us. But in reality, this batch comes from an estate located several kilometers away in Brie-sous-Matha, a village nestled in one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Saintonge wine region, on clay-limestone soils. Rich in a winemaking history spanning almost a thousand years, this tranquil village is renowned for the quality of its vineyards. This winemaker had kept his harvests from the late 1980s and early 1990s due to the economic crisis that severely impacted our region starting in 1992. Sales had plummeted, and many winemakers had been forced to store previous years' harvests for lack of buyers.
Nose: Ripe mango, cooked pineapple, elegant salinity, ripe tropical fruits.
Palate: Supple and ample, fruity indulgence with refined spices, 31 years of well-integrated oak.
Finish: Velvety and very fragrant, accessible and seductive for lovers of Fine Woods.
