A family business founded in the 1990s by Jean Grosperrin, and now run by his son Guilhem and his sister Axelle, Cognac Grosperrin embodies the very essence of the cognac merchant-producer profession as it was practiced in the 18th century.

Description

Brand History:

The spirit of Grosperrin cognacs is based on the desire to bear witness to the Charente heritage without artifice. Guilhem Grosperrin, a true cognac artisan, travels the appellation's lands each year in search of confidential lots and family heirlooms. In their restored 19th-century cellar in Saintes, the cognacs are aged as unique works, faithfully reflecting a terroir, a plot, a vintage, and a history.
Where some blend batches from different origins to create quality products, Grosperrin Cognacs craft intrinsically unique and rare cognacs, recognizable among all.

Manufacturing Method:

This vintage cognac comes from a small estate founded in 1930 by the father of the winegrower's widow (who died in 2009) from whom we purchased this lot. This estate, located in the commune of Sainte-Sévère, is on the border of Fins Bois and Borderies, on a clay-siliceous terroir, with flints. Of agricultural origin, this family has always managed to combine livestock farming, agriculture and viticulture. Having no still, this winegrower sent his wines each year to be distilled by a professional distiller located a few kilometers from his farm. Due to a lack of means and in a context of crisis in demand, the eaux-de-vie were aged at ORECO, in very dry cellars (this cognac had an alcohol content of 67.5° before reduction), where we found them after more than 40 years of aging. The year 1980 is remembered in Cognac for its very small harvest, and the extreme cold that accompanied the harvest (the "harvest in mittens", down to -10°C!).

Nose: Floral and tense, spicy notes, mahogany wood, warm flint, noble touch.
Palate: Lively and mineral, fruity and dry, very readable and racy.
Finish: Long and peppery, rancio forming, complexity typical of old Fins Bois.

Directions for use

Best enjoyed neat at room temperature (18–20°C), with a splash of water, chilled with whisky stones or ice cubes to provide slight dilution.
