A family business founded in the 1990s by Jean Grosperrin, and now run by his son Guilhem and his sister Axelle, Cognac Grosperrin embodies the very essence of the cognac merchant-producer profession as it was practiced in the 18th century.

Description

Brand history:

The spirit of Grosperrin cognacs lies in the desire to authentically showcase the heritage of the Charente region. Guilhem Grosperrin, a true cognac craftsman, travels throughout the appellation each year in search of exclusive batches and family heirlooms. In their restored 19th-century cellar in Saintes, the cognacs are nurtured like unique works of art, faithfully reflecting a terroir, a specific plot of land, a vintage, and a story.
Where some blend batches from different origins to create quality products, Cognacs Grosperrin crafts intrinsically unique and rare cognacs, recognizable among all others.

Manufacturing method:

A very rare cognac from the Île d'Oléron. These old cognacs are extremely rare, approximately 30 times rarer than an old Grande Champagne (based on the available stocks across the entire appellation). This sandy terroir, exposed to the sea spray of the Atlantic Ocean, benefits from the influence of the Gulf Stream and enjoys almost Mediterranean sunshine. The uncommon coastal plants, such as mimosa and tamarisk, have earned it the nickname "the island of herbs." This cognac comes from a very small estate located in Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron, whose owner is now retired. It was during the first lockdown that we were able to purchase this extremely rare lot, which we had identified several years ago thanks to one of our brokers.

Nose: Immediate salinity, striking marine imprint, notes of wild coastline mingled with sweet spices and a background of mimosa.
Palate: Velvety and supple, with a marked iodine imprint, it reveals an unexpected saline sweetness with hints of ripe fruit.
Finale: Quite short but perfectly balanced, simple and disarmingly sincere.

Directions for use

Best enjoyed neat at room temperature (18–20°C), with a splash of water, chilled with whisky stones or ice cubes to provide slight dilution.
