Description
Brand history:
The spirit of Grosperrin cognacs lies in the desire to authentically showcase the heritage of the Charente region. Guilhem Grosperrin, a true cognac craftsman, travels throughout the appellation each year in search of exclusive batches and family heirlooms. In their restored 19th-century cellar in Saintes, the cognacs are nurtured like unique works of art, faithfully reflecting a terroir, a specific plot of land, a vintage, and a story.
Where some blend batches from different origins to create quality products, Cognacs Grosperrin crafts intrinsically unique and rare cognacs, recognizable among all others.
Manufacturing method:
Produced on the limestone soils of Vars, a commune whose rolling plateaus frequently rise above 100 meters (a rarity in Cognac, where the average altitude is around 20 meters), this batch, composed of several remarkable casks of old cognac, has had two successive inheritances. In 1982, the producer's widow inherited the estate and ceased operations upon her husband's death. In 2017, she passed away, bequeathing the precious eaux-de-vie produced by her late husband to her children. It was from them that Guihem Grosperrin had the opportunity to purchase these casks, including this one, which was stored separately from the other batches in the cellar of his son, who himself works the land of his parents.
Nose: Saline and mineral, fine waxes, old honey, delicate candied fruits, elegant tension.
Palate: Superb texture, between wood oil and poached plum, perfect balance between structure and sensuality.
Finish: Extremely long and harmonious, oscillating between minerality and notes of noble wood.
