Description
Brand History:
The spirit of Grosperrin cognacs is based on the desire to bear witness to the Charente heritage without artifice. Guilhem Grosperrin, a true cognac artisan, travels the appellation's lands each year in search of confidential lots and family heirlooms. In their restored 19th-century cellar in Saintes, the cognacs are aged as unique works, faithfully reflecting a terroir, a plot, a vintage, and a history.
Where some blend batches from different origins to create quality products, Grosperrin Cognacs craft intrinsically unique and rare cognacs, recognizable among all.
Manufacturing Method:
Produced on the limestone soils of Vars, a commune whose rolling plateaus frequently exceed a hundred meters in altitude (rare in Cognac where the average altitude is around 20 meters), this batch composed of several barrels of old cognacs, all remarkable, has undergone two successive inheritances. In 1982, the widow of the producer inherited the latter, and ceased to operate on the death of her husband. In 2017, she died in turn, and bequeathed the precious eaux-de-vie produced by her late husband to her children. It was from them that Guihem Grosperrin had the opportunity to buy these barrels, including this one, which was housed quite separately from the other batches in the cellar of the son, himself a farmer on his parents' land.
Nose: Salty and mineral, fine waxes, old honey, delicate candied fruits, elegant tension.
Palate: Superb texture, between wood oil and poached plum, perfect balance between structure and sensuality.
Finish: Extremely long and harmonious, oscillating between minerality and notes of noble wood.
