Description
Brand History:
The spirit of Grosperrin cognacs is based on the desire to bear witness to the Charente heritage without artifice. Guilhem Grosperrin, a true cognac artisan, travels the appellation's lands each year in search of confidential lots and family heirlooms. In their restored 19th-century cellar in Saintes, the cognacs are aged as unique works, faithfully reflecting a terroir, a plot, a vintage, and a history.
Where some blend batches from different origins to create quality products, Grosperrin Cognacs craft intrinsically unique and rare cognacs, recognizable among all.
Manufacturing Method:
This rare cognac was produced by a winemaker in the commune of Burie, on the Borderies plateau. This winemaker, now retired, had kept this very small batch. This barrel had been carefully stored in the small cellar of the property, where we found it after many years of aging. Given the very small quantity, we went to retrieve it with our truck, and we pumped the contents into a small tank, under the watchful eyes of the winemaker and the sworn broker, also retired. For practical reasons, we were unable to recover the barrel, and we had to transfer its contents into two barrels that had contained very old cognacs, in our cellar in Saintes. It is offered to you as the years have left it.
Nose: Exuberant and unique, iris, violet, black truffle, sweet pepper and light floral rancios.
Palate: Smooth and deep, developing an aromatic richness with liquorice, candied fruits and floral spices.
Finish: Typical signature of Borderies, between stewed red fruits and dried flowers.
